You will arrive in your private room with a calming environment and warm lighting.
We have pillows and blankets for your comfort. You are more than welcome to bring any comfortable items as well. We recommend wearing loose fitting, relaxing clothing. Lay back and let us take care of you.
An intravenous catheter is placed to begin the infusion. You can relax back in a quiet private room or watch TV. You will be closely monitored by an experienced licensed healthcare provider. Upon completion, you will be monitored for an additional 30 min.
We ask that you do not ingest solid foods for at least two hours prior to your appointment (this includes milk, creamer, & soft foods like pudding). You may have CLEAR liquids during the two hours prior to your appointment. Ketamine can sometimes cause nausea and abdominal cramping. We provide preventative medications to avoid nausea with your infusion. You should plan on being at the clinic for 2 hours (usually less). You will need to arrange for transportation home and a responsible adult to stay. with you for 2-4 hours after your treatment. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and feel free to bring any items such as books, a computer, or a laptop with you. We provide Wi-Fi, blankets, and pillows for your comfort.
The preferred route of administration is intravenously. An IV will be started when you arrive at the clinic and we will administer your infusion through the IV. We do have protocols in place that allow for us to deliver the medication through a shot into the muscle. This is reserved for patients who we are unable to provide an intravenous infusion for (e.g., a difficult IV stick or unable to place a peripheral IV for medical reasons).
Chronic stress weakens neural connections in the brain over time. Depression decreases the number of synapses (the connections between neurons) in the brain. Ketamine works directly to restore these connections. It binds to the NMDA receptor and releases a glutamate surge. This in turn releases growth factors, like BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor), which help make new synaptic connections and pave healthier thought patterns in the brain.
Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication that is commonly used by anesthesia providers for surgical and nonsurgical procedures. Ketamine helps to provide both pain relief and sedation. Ketamine infusions are not FDA approved for treatment of chronic pain, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, or fibromyalgia. Current research provides us with the data and evidence needed to know that certain conditions can be managed with the use of ketamine.
The infusion usually lasts 60-90 minutes and we monitor your vital signs for 15-30 minutes after the infusion is complete prior to discharge.
A single infusion is from $500 to $600 and is due the day of treatment. We will provide a 20% discount for one service for first time customers. We accept cash and credit card payments. We do not accept insurance. Financing options are available through Care Credit.
